On Saturday, October 21st, Babson hosted NEWCRC newcomers, Williams College. Due to low numbers on the opposition side, it was decided that a game of 10's would be played.
The Beavers started strong, scoring their first try just 4 minutes into the match, and touched down another only 2 minutes later. Both were converted, and Babson was rolling with a 14-0 lead early in the game. After continued defensive pressure and some hard tackles, Babson was able to poach the opposition ball and set one of their props on a long bruising run down the sideline that ended just short of the goal. On the play 3 Williams players were injured, leaving only 7 remaining. The 10's game was ended with a final score of 14-0, and the clubs elected to play two games of 7's instead.
7's game #1 kicked off with a similar start - Babson taking possession and holding it for long periods. Two breakaway runs (neither converted) had the Beavers up 10-0 at the half as everyone tried to catch their breath. The second half began with another Babson try before Williams was finally able to find space out wide. The Williams player broke free for a 50-meter run and touched the ball down for their only points of the day. In the end, Babson won the first 7's match 20-5.
In 7's game #2, Babson continued to roll subs, getting as many players valuable game experience as possible. Two first half tries mimicked the prior game, however this time one was converted, taking a 12-0 lead into halftime. After the break Babson was able to break away for 3 more tries, converting two, and the game ended 31-0.
In total, Babson outscored Williams 65-5 on the day. The Beavers will travel across town to face Wellesley next week (Saturday, October 28th); 11am kickoff, at Upper Field, Keohane Sports Center, Wellesley MA
