After an undefeated regular season, Babson opted to schedule a "Challenge Match" scrimmage against a higher level opponent. This match was intended to gauge exactly where the club was developmentally, in anticipation of promotion to NEWCRC Tier 2 next fall. University of New England was nice enough to host Babson for the friendly 15's match.
UNE opened the scoring early and never looked back, putting up 70 unanswered points on Babson's previously untested defense through the first 52 minutes of the match. Despite the lopsided score, the Beavers never gave up, and began to gain some momentum as UNE players began to tire and substitutions were made. Babson began stringing together multiple clean phases of offensive rugby, combining long break aways from the backs and punishing runs and smart offloads by the forwards. Over the final 23 minutes of the game, Babson outscored UNE 31-5, with tries from 5 different players.
The final score was UNE 75, Babson 31 to close out the season. Despite the less than desirable result, Babson showed admirable resolve and are poised for big things in the coming seasons.
The coaches and players would like to thank all the fans and alumni for all their support this fall. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Haley McLaughlin (Back's Captain) and Iris Rodrigo Ruano (Starting Hooker) for their careers with Babson Women's RFC. Haley will be graduating this coming December, while Iris will return to Spain following her one semester abroad at Babson College. We wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavors, and hope to see them return for future alumni festivities!
