Sunday, April 24th

Babson wrapped up their spring season this weekend, traveling to MIT to participate in their annual Prom Dress 7's tournament.  Some last minute absences left the club with no subs, which also allowed 4 rookies to play significant minutes.

The day kicked off against a familiar opponent in WPI, and a long line break put Babson down 5-0 in the first.  Despite some early struggles with tackling and unforced handling errors, the Beavers were able to fight back in the second half.  Time simply ran out for Babson, and they fell 12-5 in the first game of the day.

After a short break, the second game of pool play began against Wellesley-2 as their club had sufficient numbers to enter two sides into the tournament.  This game was a vast improvement for Babson, with dynamic play from nearly all the players on the field, shedding tackles and offloading the ball to open players breaking through the defensive line.  This game was never in doubt, as Babson won 32-0.

The final game of pool play was against Amherst College, whom the girls scrimmaged in their first game of the spring.  Babson picked up where they left off 30 minutes earlier with long line breaks and stifling defense that resulted in several turnover balls.  Once again, Babson controlled the game, winning 32-5.

Pool play wrapped up with Babson as the #4 seed going into the playoff rounds.  They took on Boston College 2 (Division 1, B-Side) in the Quarter Finals, with continued strong play resulting in an easy win.  The Semi Final match-up vs. Boston College 1 was another story, as BC-1 ran wild against Babson.  Not a surprising result, considering the BC side was a trained 7's program from Division 1, whereas all other teams in the tournament were Division 3 clubs.

Despite the unfortunate outcome against a club that clearly should not have been competing in the same division, this marks back-to-back years reaching the semi-finals of the MIT Prom Dress 7's tournament, and the culmination of a great spring season!  On the day 4 players scored their first A-Side try for Babson, and the club looks forward to building on this outcome next fall!
