After a strong Fall 2017 season which resulted in promotion to a higher level of competition within NEWCRC, Babson opted to join the newly formed New England College 7's Circuit (NEC7C) for the spring, a series of 7's tournaments which boast some of the top Division 2 college clubs in the region.

The first tournament of the spring was an 8-team NEC7C event hosted by Bryant College at their beautiful indoor football facility down in Rhode Island.  Due to injuries and schedule conflicts, the Beavers traveled with only 8 players for this early spring competition, including 2 rookies who would be playing in their first rugby game ever!

Babson started out the tournament slowly, with 30-15 and 25-5 losses to Endicott and Stonehill, respectively, while also losing a senior player to injury, leaving the Beavers with no substitutes for the remainder of the tournament.  Both of these losses came against top D2 competition, and while Babson competed admirably, they were simply outmatched by the more accomplished programs.

In the final game of Pool Play, Babson came roaring back, downing Umass-Lowell with a score of 20-0.  Constant defensive pressure forced multiple handling errors by their opponents, and the undermanned Babson club took advantage.  Pool play ended with Babson at a 1-2 record, securing the #3 seed in "Pool B".

The consolation semi-final match pitted Babson against the "Pool A" #4 seed, Wesleyan.  With both teams beginning to tire, Babson's aggressive style continued and they pounded in try after try, winning the match 35-5.

In the consolation final, Babson matched up against the "Pool A" #3 seed, Wheaton.  After the teams traded tries early in the first half, Wheaton was able to successfully find space out wide against the tired Babson side, and pulled away to a 25-15 win.

Babson finished the day with a 2-3 record, and a 6th of 8 finish.  With over a month before their next competition, BWRFC will be spending the next few weeks preparing for the remainder of the spring season!
