Another unseasonably warm October Saturday made for perfect rugby weather as Babson traveled across town to play Wellesley College this past weekend. Babson started the scoring early as their scrum half made a heads up play off a ruck near the goal line, diving over and touching the ball down in the corner. The other position groups did their part as well, with one "Forward" and one "Backs" try during the half, however each was scored near the sideline, and none of the three were converted. With 5 minutes to go in the period, Wellesley was able to break through the Babson defense for a try, and with the conversion the half ended with a close 15-7 score in favor of the Beavers.
The second half was marred with injuries to both teams, and both sides were forced to play shorthanded. As the field opened up, and Wellesley began to tire, Babson was relentless in their attack. Hard charging runs by the forwards put the Wellesley defense on their back foot, and arm tackles were unable to stop the Beavers on their way to the try zone. The second half resulted in 7 more tries by Babson (6 converted), split among backs and forwards.
Babson was victorious with a final score of 62-7, and ends their season a perfect 5-0, outscoring their opponents by a total of 312 - 22. They will travel to the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine this coming Saturday (November 4th) to play a challenge match against a higher division opponent.
